Full-time Veterinary Technician for ER/ICU services

Emergency Veterinarian

Immediate opening for an additional, full-time Emergency Veterinarian to join our team at Florida Veterinary Referral Center & 24-Hour Emergency and Critical Care, (FVRC) in Estero, Florida. 

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a must!

With a focus on providing exceptional care to both our patients and their owners, FVRC is a state-of-the-art specialty referral and 24-hour emergency hospital located just minutes away from white sandy beaches in beautiful Southwest Florida.  FVRC is fully equipped to support our team of specialty and emergency doctors.  The ER Doctors’ schedules are on a rotation that includes day and swing shifts.  The facility includes an intensive and critical care unit, two surgical suites, digital radiology and ultrasonography, laparoscopy, and video endoscopy, on-site MRI as well as off-site CT and high field MRI. Board-certified and residency trained doctors to provide specialty care in the areas of Surgery, Radiology, Internal Medicine, Oncology, and Critical Care.

Role Overview:

As a Client Service Representative (CSR), you will play a crucial role in ensuring exceptional client and patient care. You will work closely with our medical staff, serve as the first point of contact for our clients, manage a high call volume, and handle multi-phone line systems. Your responsibilities will include processing payments and refunds, recording information accurately, and maintaining medical records.

Surgical Technician

Florida Veterinary Referral Center is seeking an experienced surgical technician. The surgical technicians will assist the doctors fully to help improve the quality of care given to the patients and aid the doctors in achieving greater efficiency by relieving them of technical work. The surgical technician job duties encompass all the duties of the veterinary technician job description, with a focus on surgery.

Weekday Schedule - Monday - Friday 8am-6pm

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of patients for anesthesia (pre-op blood work, assessments, radiographs, other tests, and procedures as ordered by the surgeon).

  • Anesthetizing, maintaining, monitoring, and recovering patients preoperatively. Must be proficient in drug and CRI calculations.

  • Arrange the operating rooms (OR) before surgery, restore the OR to cleanliness, and order following surgery.

  • Act as a scrub nurse assistant to the surgeon as needed.

  • Circulate the OR during surgery, learn and anticipate the surgeon has needs, and open packs and instruments aseptically.

  • Prepare patients for surgical procedures (clipping, scrubbing, positioning on table, connecting to monitoring equipment, etc).

  • Maintain surgical equipment and inventory, including cleaning, wrapping, sterilizing, and organizing.

  • Proper handling, completion of paperwork, and submission of surgical histopathology and microbiology samples.

  • Produce quality digital radiographs safely and efficiently.

  • Communicate effectively with clients

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the above-listed responsibilities satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required.

Skills and Experience:

  • Proper animal restraint

  • Peripheral catheter placement and properly securing them

  • Venipuncture

  • Knowledge of various routes of drug administration

  • Calculation and administration of fluids and medications

  • Aseptic surgical area preparation

  • Maintain surgical equipment and inventory, including cleaning, wrapping, sterilizing and organizing

Educational Requirements:

  • High School education or equivalent

  • 2-3 years of related job experience in surgical department/emergency department

  • Certification or licensing as a veterinary technician preferred

Hospital Training Coordinator

Job Title: Hospital Training Coordinator

Job Status: Full-time

Schedule: Working hours will vary based on the training needs of team members. Various shifts and days up to 40 hours per week.

Supervisor: Hospital Director

Compensation: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Job Purpose

The Hospital Training Coordinator is responsible for providing high-quality training, assessment, and mentorship to the technical staff at FVRC. This role partners with Technical Supervisors and Medical Director to build a cohesive, well-trained, and efficient team, collaborates with veterinarians to meet the evolving needs of the hospital, and works closely with the Hospital Director to establish goals, secure resources, and implement training strategies.

Duties & Responsibilities

Training Duties (80%)

  • Process Analysis:

    Evaluate workflows and processes from a quality perspective; assist in implementing new processes.

  • Learning and Performance Gaps:

    Identify and address gaps between knowledge and performance, and create actionable solutions.

  • Training Programs:

    Design, implement, and deliver training programs tailored to the career development needs of technical staff.

  • Assessment Tools:

    Create and administer evaluations, such as skill demonstrations, quizzes, and tests, to measure training effectiveness.

  • Training Updates:

    Regularly review and revise training materials in response to updates in hospital processes, protocols, or equipment.

  • Development Plans:

    Map out individualized development plans for team members, setting measurable training goals and tracking progress.

  • New Employee Onboarding:

    Guide new technical staff through a structured two-week onboarding program.

  • Ongoing Training:

    Deliver ad hoc training sessions and conduct regular observations to identify and address training needs.

  • Coaching Shift Leads:

    Mentor Shift Leads to reinforce training initiatives and foster consistent standards across shifts.

  • Performance Reviews:

    Collaborate with management to participate in performance evaluations, providing input on technical skill progression.

Administrative Duties (20%)

  • Training Programs:

    Develop a comprehensive training and development program, including itineraries and schedules.

  • SOP Management:

    Create and maintain current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to training and technical processes.

  • Skill Assessment:

    Evaluate team member skills, identifying strengths and areas for improvement, and provide mentorship for growth.

  • Error Tracking:

    Maintain an error log to prioritize and address training gaps effectively.

  • Practice Management Software (Ezyvet & SmartFlow):

    Train staff on software use and ensure compliance with medical documentation standards, including terminology, grammar, and data entry. Regularly review and audit compliance and skill, providing targeted training as needed.

  • Recruitment and Retention:

    Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and disciplinary actions for technical staff.

  • Communication:

    Foster open communication within the technical team and with hospital leadership.

Requirements

Education and Certifications

  • RVT, LVT, or CVT credentialing with current documentation.

  • Demonstrated experience in adult training or teaching; teaching certification is a plus.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven ability to design and deliver effective training programs for veterinary professionals.

  • Strong track record in tracking and assessing technical performance and skill development.

  • Excellent veterinary nursing and technical skills, including primary and emergency care.

  • Proficient in using veterinary software, such as Ezyvet and SmartFlow.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Collaborative and positive attitude with experience coaching and mentoring teams.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to properly restrain canine and feline patients.

  • Ability to stand, sit, bend, squat, and restrain for extended periods.

  • Able to lift 60 lbs. safely and efficiently.

  • Capable of teaching, training, coaching, and mentoring in a professional and positive manner.
