Externship Program

The Florida Veterinary Referral Center (FVRC) externship program offers veterinary students the chance to gain experience in a cutting-edge specialty referral and emergency facility dedicated to delivering top-notch customer service and patient care. Our program is tailored for senior veterinary students, offering a range of small animal clinical services such as Internal Medicine, Surgery, Critical Care Medicine, and Emergency Medicine. Students can focus on one area of interest or rotate through several services during their externship.

All students are expected to participate in morning and evening hospital rounds, departmental rounds, and lectures. They will review various cases observed during their rotation and should be prepared to answer questions. Ongoing access to our library is provided to support their clinical knowledge and understanding of cases they encounter or discuss during rotations.

FVRC’s externship program is interactive and hands-on. Students collaborate directly with specialists in their assigned department, as well as emergency clinicians, interns, and highly trained technical staff. This collaborative approach ensures a comprehensive and rewarding learning experience at our referral hospital.

Prerequisites for Externship:

1. Professional interest in small animal medicine, surgery, emergency medicine, or critical care.

2. Preference is given to 4th-year veterinary students.

3. Students are responsible for arranging their housing and transportation during the externship.

4. Provide a letter of Intent and Curriculum vitae.

5. Provide specific dates for participation and areas of interest.
